3. Course Objectives
Course Objective
The Certificate in English Language (Level 1) aims to build a strong foundation in English for learners aged 15 and above. The course focuses on the four key skills — Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing — through real-world, communicative tasks. It supports learners in developing confidence to use English effectively in daily life, academic contexts, and workplace situations.
- Use greetings and polite expressions; introduce self and others.
- Describe daily routines and ask questions about time and frequency.
- Ask and respond to questions related to shopping, food, and preferences.
- Give and follow directions using appropriate prepositions and vocabulary.
- Talk about past events and future plans; demonstrate understanding of key grammar and vocabulary from the course.
- Share experiences and express future plans using correct grammatical structures.
- Demonstrate understanding of key grammar, vocabulary, and communicative expressions in English.

5. Manner of Instruction
Face-to-Face (Classroom Learning)
Lessons are conducted on campus at Edvantage Institute (Singapore).
6. Entry Requirements
- Minimum Age: 15 years and above
- Language Requirement: No formal English language proficiency is required. However, applicants may also be admitted through any of the following indicators:
- Pass in English Language at Primary 6 level (or equivalent); or
- Pass in English Language at International Year 6 Level (or equivalent), or
- Placement test score – A pass at the Elementary level
- Academic Requirement: Applicants must have completed primary education (or its equivalent)
7. Graduation Requirements
To be awarded the Certificate in English Language (Level 1), students must:
- Pass the overall grading
- Keep attendance above 90% (for Student’s Pass Holders)
- Keep attendance above 75% (for non-Student’s Pass Holders)

Students who successfully complete the course will be awarded the Certificate in English Language (Level 1) by Edvantage Institute (Singapore).
